Distinct Structure Home Design Ideas

Designed by David Jameson Architect, this house is really inspiring home design. Two stone structures surround a glass pavilion within a wooded landscape. The concept of this residence was to create three distinct structures: one for the most public programs (entry space, garage and guest bedrooms), one for the most private living programs and one where “public” and private can co-exist.

Each space has an outdoor terrace or some special connection to the site while the roof of the glass pavilion folds beyond one’s cone of vision to create the feeling of being outside. The building is made of all natural materials with a 100-year lifespan and features an underground spring-fed water furnace HVAC system.

Fundamental to the conception of the house is the notion of reflectivity, rendering unclear the boundaries between inside and outside. Light and space are modulated by meshing ribbons of wall and glass that form a tessellation of solid and void. The conditioning of these internal and external walls is identical. Planes of stucco exterior walls transform into plaster interior walls while passing through glass. Clerestory glazing and window constructs are carefully sited to afford privacy to the occupants while framing and extending views through the site.

Plywood Braced Post and Beam Frame House Design Ideas

This house designed by Lindsay Clare Architects. Designed to provide a model for a low cost alternative to the fully tailor-made house. It displays an effective architectural and engineering simplicity, with a deliberate and clear organisation of materials, functions and structure.
To keep construction costs below the required $600 per square metre, the design adopted the contractor’s preferred building methods as the basis for detailing, economic timber construction. The structure was conceived as a two storey timber box, framed and braced by the external walls and by plywood clad fin walls running along the perimeter. At the roof level, these fins support curved transverse glue laminated beams, a curved clear hoop pine plywood ceiling and the roof support structure. In the finished structure, these fins serve additional functions. They form alcoves along the perimeter useful for entry, storage or work spaces and give the internal spaces a grand scale. No internal walls are required for bracing or load bearing, allowing a high degree of flexibility in the arrangement of the internal spaces and of services. The joists and bearers were left exposed.

The palette of internal colours is restrained, relying on the tones of natural timber and subdued painted surfaces. The floor in the living areas is tallowwood, detailed with inlaid strips of brush box. The plywood in the fin walls is finished in a rich yellow hoop pine, and clear solid hoop pine is used in joinery.

Float Sculptural Roof of House Design Ideas

The house form defined by a sculptural roof that floats above an expansive living room and several bedrooms. This area called as Pavilion. There are three components of this house: a Pavilion, a Parterre, and a Box, all of which heighten one’s awareness of the terrain through their spatial arrangement on the site. Movement is effortless when walking along the mountain such as in the Pavilion’s hallway flanking the southern sculpture garden; but an increase in difficulty as one communicates from level to level, moving against the natural grade.

Sculptural roof embrace the solitude of native grasses, wild flowers, scrub oak, granite outcroppings, and wildlife. Completely exposed, the living room features eighteen-foot high sheets of canted glass which contort toward panoramas of brilliant sunsets and thunderstorms that frequently engulf the Great Salt Lake valley and nearby Antelope Island.

Located at the mouth of the Little Cottonwood Canyon just south of Salt Lake City, Utah, The House is sited on a steep and rugged foothill and takes full advantage of its spectacular mountainous environs. With a low profile and its emphasized horizontality, nearly half of the three-story house is buried below grade to reduce its apparent mass and respect the natural terrain.
The selection of materials indigenous to the mountainside are collaged together to reflect the primitive and natural beauty of the terrain through the use of exposed structural steel, architectural concrete, native rock, cedar, and glass mosaic tiles, whose colors are reminiscent of the earth’s minerals. This house designed by Grunsfeld Shafer Architects.

The Parterre provides exterior spaces for lounging and entertaining, both in winter and summer; extensions of interior spaces or interstitial spaces between the house’s components. The simple form and quite demeanor of the Box houses both public and private spaces, including an exercise room, bathroom, ski storage room, and sauna on the lower level; kitchen, dining room, powder room, and closets on the first level; and the master bedroom and office on the upper level. The Box’s highly controlled fenestration frames human-scaled views while providing a secluded and tranquil area which complements and contrasts with the voyeuristic transparency of the Pavilion. Like this single family dwelling, designed by Christensen & Co in two different design: STAR and STRAIGHT. Both houses are designed with a particular focus on creating a frame around family life and amenity space. Transparency, space and connected internal and external spaces were the key drivers for the design.
Both houses will be “Swan Certified” a particularly stringent Scandinavian certification than demands standards of energy efficiency much greater than the recently revised building regulation requirements. Additionally 97% of all timber in the building will be from replanted forest and materials will be sourced locally. Collaborators: Bascon Engineering – Marianne Levinsen Landskabsarkitekter.

Reconfiguring in Structural Glass Walls House Design Ideas

This old brick Garde II house reconfiguring, refurbishing and of course extended. This renovation work included a new rear extension with structural glass walls and ceilings to allow light to flood into the new space and lower level of the house. With the new extension accommodating the kitchen, the lower ground floor was freed-up providing a large open plan living/dining area. Upstairs, a new bathroom was formed by combining the original bathroom with a small bedroom to create a generous new space with many bespoke features.
