The new Medical Practice Building will support the planned growth of the School of Medicine’s UMMG clinical practice, diagnostic and treatment services, and acute and critical inpatient services. The facility consolidates current clinical programs into a single, modern, patient-oriented facility, as well as allowing for growth of these services. Working closely with the University of Miami, Perkins+Will designed the new building to provide opportunities for improved patient access, improved patient safety, and increased staffing and practice efficiencies.
The project consists of a 10-story, 664,000 SF hospital and clinic facility, including 120 acute care beds, 24 critical care beds, 240 exam rooms, diagnostic and treatment facilities, a large imaging component, and 49,500 SF of shelled space for future clinical programs or bed expansion. An additional 40,000 SF of renovation will be included in existing buildings. Patient safety is a major focus of this project.
Located on an urban campus, the site requires integration with the existing campus, roadways, parking garages, and pedestrian spaces; therefore, site planning and street improvements are integral aspects of the project. A central chilled water plant and loop is expected to be built as a separate project which will serve the new facility.
